Zoo Volunteering

So we went to the National Zoo to do some volunteering work for two Mondays, which were 6th September and 13th September. The first Monday was a sunny day (it rained in the evening), but the second was raining heavily and we forgot to bring along extra clothes and raincoats. So we were drenched when we finished our job LOL.

We got to go near to those animals, feed them and bathed them :D But seriously, I don’t really enjoy it LOL. Guess I cant have a pet HAHA :D  We weren’t allowed to take any photos tho, but we did when the zookeepers weren’t looking.

On the first Monday (6th Sept), we were assigned to do some work at the Kid’s place, where the animals are harmless and TINY. Well, you know I kinda hate kids, and luckily it’s Monday and there weren’t much kids there, else I’m gona go crazy. So, basically we just sweep the floor, clean the cages and feed the animals LOL. Sounds easy?

The new born goat, I was shocked that its voice is so dry WTH. It’s like coming from some old goat LOL. And he/she was so “attention seeking” HAHA. I guess no one really comes and visit them right :/ They just come, take pictures and leave sigh.

And the cages are so huge, yet the animals are separated from each other. I think it feels lonely being in a large cage with no one to play with. So it keeps sticking its head to the other cage to play with the mouse deer. I shall go back more often to visit you :)

These are what I called the eyeliner rabbit :D They are so cute that I feel like bringing home one LOL. Almost all of them have the “panda eyes” :)

This cute little creature was looking at the camera YAY x)

On the first day I was in the same team with Kiyip and Yueesun. And Kiyip was sent to another department to work alone with a male zookeeper. And he was “tortured” by him HAHA. He asked Kiyip to clean all the monkeys’ cages while he sat there and watched Kiyip. Poor Kiyip, and he has to clean the hippos’ shit too LOL.

Yueesun and I, however, got to work with a Malay woman. She’s kind enough not to let us do much work, and she swept away the shit in the cages before she asked us to go in. Then we prepared the food to feed the animals.

It's eating happily. Glad to see that :)

The rabbits are fighting to eat LOL. The box is definitely too small to squeeze 10 rabbits. Change a bigger box please.

Met JingXuan and Yasmine when we were going to the restaurant to have our lunch. They were so lucky, they were dismissed after bathing the elephants and we still need to go back to feed the animals and do some cleaning. RAWR that was unfair D:

And so my first Monday ended up in a Kid’s Area, with the goats, miniature horses, mouse deer, tortoises, rabbits and hedgehogs LOL. Yueesun did something to the mane of the horse, so that it looks like some old man hairstyle HAHAHA.

Meet Hobbit, one of the miniature horse :D They are kinda tiny and short HAHA. The other horse is Wizard, weird name :/ It’s brown and looks kinda handsome HEHE.

The other Monday was raining cats and dogs, and we were so CLEVER to forget about our raincoats, (Actually we thought that maybe we don’t need to do anything since it’s raining. But we were wrong D:) and I forgot to bring extra clothes AGAIN.

Yasmine and her “lap sap mui” style on 13th September. Nice hat made by the zookeeper :D

I was wearing my MU cap, so I didn’t need one. And I wish I had one after that, cause my MU cap stink and I had to wash a few times. (MANN NEVER WEAR ANYTHING YOU LOVE TO DO VOLUNTEERING WORK.) Btw, this was taken at the Hippopotamus cage. Got a bad experience with the hippo WTF.

So we started our job in the hippos cages and the monkeys’ cages. First, we need to feed them. A van came and left the hippos food in a few sacks at a corner, and we need to bring those food to the hippos. Those sacks were so heavy I wondered what were inside. And guess what, they filled the sack with sand and the food were in the sand LOL. Apparently the hippos eat the sand, for better digestion according to Yasmine. And they spitted out the sand when they gobbled up the food, so it’s like a nice “sand” fountain LOL.

These two were playing around HEHE. Photo credits to ShenJian. Was too wet to even bother to take out my phone from my pocket WTH.

So ok, the bad experience. After feeding, we were walking to the monkeys’ cages along a small trail behind the birds’ cages. There was this hippo which was locked up behind (Guess it has some disease or that it fights with the other hippos). When we were about to pass a tree where the hippo was standing beside, suddenly I saw the hippo wagged its tail at the tree. So I told Yasmine lets just wait and see what happens.

And soon after I said that, the hippo pee at the tree, and continued to wag its tail while peeing. Then, it started to shit WTF (tail still wagging). So the shit was flying everywhere and the tree was full with the shit WTH. Luckily we waited for it, else my whole shirt will be full of SHIT. And I’m so gona kill the hippopotamus LOL.

BAD EXPERIENCE :/ Sorry if you’re eating tho x)

And this time, we had 1 hour left for us to walk around the zoo HEHE. Thanks to the nice zookeeper :) We went to the Kid’s Area which is nearby and took some photos before we went to sit down at some benches.
